Project Detail
Project: Desert Oasis Refinery Project
Equipments: 64”/74” Buckling Pin Relief Valves
Date: March 2017 to June 2018
Vendor Location: Fabricator of Buckling Pin Relief Valves in Nuevo Leon, Mexico.
Visual Inspection on Assembled Valve per ITP Plan DOR-T57-R305-01 Rev D Item 19, Customer Spec 10-DORR-T57 and Standard MSS SP-55.
Items Inspected: 74” Valve Tag F38-604-DOR-4763 and 64” Valve Tag F38-604-DOR-4768.
Findings: Observed several areas on casting surfaces of Valve Bodies with surface irregularities exceeding the example “a” of defects Type Gas Porosity from Standard MSS SP-55, Not Acceptable to Customer Spec 10-DORR-T57 Section 6.5. As follow Up on this Issue, a typical Visual Inspection Report from inspections as conducted previously in UK, was provided from Vendor for review and It reflects acceptance on examined castings according to an acceptance criteria described only as MSS SP-55, however not clarifying about a specific level of acceptance such as Examples "a", "b", etc., means that defects corresponding to Examples "a" and "b" according to Standard MSS SP-55 have been accepted. It is Not Acceptable to Customer Spec 10-DORR-T57 Section 6.5, since defects per example ”a” is the only acceptable example from Standard MSS SP-55 in accordance with Referenced Customer Spec.
Re-Inspection: Per Vendor Decision, all referenced surface irregularities have been repaired by grinding to bring them to within project specifications. See Photos on described issues as found originally.
Visual Inspection on Paint per ITP Plan DOR-T57-R305-01 Rev D Item 37 and Paint Spec DOR-0114 Rev 1.
Item Inspected: 74” Buckling Pin Relief Valve Tag F38-604-DOR-4763.
Findings: Several Areas showing Sharp Edges on painted Surfaces No Rounded to 1/8” Minimum Radius as specified on Section 6.1.1 from referenced Paint Specification.
Re-Inspection: Corrections conducted by vendor in compliance with Projects requirements referenced above. See Photo as Illustration on referenced issue as found originally.
Benefits to Our Customer: By using Fraza Inspection Team, Customer saved a lot of of time and money preventing excessive expenses per back charges for Re-works at field site per unacceptable issues on Surface Preparation and Not Compliance to Project Specifications, if Not Corrected/Repaired in timely manner at Vendor Shop.
